Veken Pet Fountain- Stay Hydrated!

Just like Mom used to make.

Everyone loves a good drink. As a matter of fact, we kind of need the stuff to live! One thing that anyone who has every had a cat will know is that they do not typically love to drink water. Believe it or not, cats are actually historically desert creatures and got much of their moisture from their prey. Cats will still drink water but will typically shy away from still water in bowls for multiple reasons.

Many of us with feline friends will notice that when we turn the sink on, our little friends will run excitedly towards it and drink from it. One major thing about cats is that they usually always prefer fresh running water over any other source of water. In the wild, running water is the safest to drink and will usually not make them sick. Studies have also shown that the way a cat sees the world may actually make it difficult to see still water (you may have seen cats patting the water bowl and dipping their paws in before drinking- now you know why!) which makes them less likely to drink from bowls.

As cats age, a common thing that they may experience is kidney disease. A large amount of kidney disease in cats is thought to be caused by the lack of water that they drink throughout their lives. Once they have kidney disease, which is one of the most common diseases in cats, it is extremely important for them to stay hydrated and drink even more, and the disease itself makes them less likely to want to drink on their own. Kidney disease in cats will usually lead to hospitalizations at the clinic for I.V. Fluid administration, and will likely also lead to a need for subcutaneous fluids for maintenance, which can be extremely stressful for cat and the caretaker. Making sure your cat is drinking enough is the most important thing that you can do to prevent kidney disease.

The Veken Pet Fountain is a product that I have found to be exceptional at helping my feline friends stay hydrated. The fountain has multiple spouts for water to flow from so that your feline friend doesn’t get bored, and the filters are cheap and easy to replace but also reliable and seem to work very well. Cats seem to love the fountain itself, and it actually doesn’t look bad really anywhere you put it in a room. It’s also a good idea to have multiple areas of clean, fresh water for your pets, so it wouldn’t hurt to have a couple around the house!

Pros:

  • Helps entice cats to drink

  • Easy to clean

  • Filters cheap and easy to replace

  • Very quiet

  • Lasts for a long time between filling

  • Multiple water spouts to keep cats interested or single spout option

  • 4 Stage filtration

  • Quality materials

  • BPA Free

Cons:

  • Cats may find it a little too fun and make a little bit of a mess, but very easy to clean!

Verdict: 9/10
