Flexadin Advanced-Let’s Talk About Joint Health
Joint health, as anyone with arthritis themselves or that has had a pet with it, is a hard thing to live with. From achy joints to constant pain and inability to move sometimes, it’s truly no fun for anyone. As someone with a medical joint condition that has caused early arthritis, I can verify that joint supplements can be a truly important part of any person’s or pet’s routine. Joint supplements may not always be warranted, and certainly for younger, healthier animals, it may not be necessary at all. It’s something to bring up to your veterinarian if you are concerned.
Some dogs and breeds, however, can have a much higher chance of developing arthritis. My sweet girl Star, for example, was born with only 3 legs and is missing her front right leg entirely. Even though this has not slowed her down (AT ALL!) or caused any discomfort yet, I know that as she ages and puts more pressure on the other three legs than they were designed for, she is at a higher risk for developing early arthritis than other dogs.
I have always heard many veterinarians I have worked with recommend starting joint supplements well before you see issues, but not necessarily too early when it is essentially not doing anything. There are certainly some products on the market that are meant to be used to build the joint health and can be started at a younger age. Some vets recommend beginning when pets start to show signs of becoming seniors, which is different for every dog, but typically around 5-7 years old for a lot of dogs. Some doctors i have worked with recommend starting more active dogs on supplements as early as 1 or 2 years old. It all depends on lifestyle- talk to your veterinarian about what is best for your pet.
Helena Roo is currently about 6 years old, and Star turned 1 year old this month (Happy Birthday!), and due to Helena’s age and activity level and Star’s missing leg and activity level, both of my canine companions are currently on joint supplements daily.
There are many products on the market, but the one that I have chosen to use that I would recommend to others is called Vetoquinol Flexadin Advanced with UC-II Joint Supplement. This product is also labeled for use in cats as well, and works well for them, too!
Flexadin Advanced is an inexpensive, easy to dose supplement that is very palatable and delicious! Don’t ask how I know what they taste like, but you can trust me, they taste pretty good! Oh, and the dogs love them too!
Pros:
Easy to dose- just one chew per dog or cat per day, no matter what size!
Very palatable and delicious formula
Reasonable price
Available online or at many vet offices or pet stores
Helps to alleviate inflammation, fight free radicals and maintain healthy cartilage
Supports immune system as well as joint health

Cons:
Some cats may not eat it, but I have not met a dog that does not like it!
Verdict: 9/10
Would recommend to anyone with an animal with arthritis or joint issues or that is at a higher risk of developing these issues.
