Cat Nails Matter Too!

Cat Nails Nail Trimmer

With small paws and retractable claws, some cats nails can be very tricky to trim! Some specialized trimmers may work better than others.

I’m sorry, did you think i forgot about my feline friends? I was simply saving the best for last!

Cat nails can be a bit trickier than some dog nails, but are essentially treated very similarly. Cats will routinely scratch objects (such as a scratch post, or possibly even your couch! Oops!) to maintain healthy nails and remove excess material as the nails grow. This usually will leave a beautiful curve with a fine, very sharp point. Some cats, especially as they age, will stop doing this scratching behavior and their nails will begin to overgrow, oftentimes curving directly (and painfully) into their paw pads. Because of the size of the cat and it’s nails, its not usually recommended to use large clippers, and can even sometimes be dangerous. You never want to remove too much from a cat’s claws, only the curved tip, so that you do not hurt them. Large clippers can make it harder to judge how much you are cutting off.

“Honestly, I’m not sure who scratched the couch. I mean, someone did, but certainly not me.”

Thankfully, there are plenty of products that are made specifically for cats! My personal favorite and recommendation would always be the Cat Nail Clipper by Pet Republique. These little guys really do hold their own, even when pitted against the Millers Forge clippers! I will certainly use these trimmers even for smaller breeds of dogs, such as smaller chihuahuas, yorkies, toy breeds and etc. These clippers stay sharp and ready and are very easy to hold and use, even for someone with hands and fingers as large as mine are, which is not easy to find! They work well for bigger and smaller nails, but most importantly, they work very well for the thick and painful overgrown nails. These nail clippers are able to quickly and easily cut through the thickened nails, which makes it easier for the patients.

Great for fitting into your pocket!

Some of my coworkers prefer trimmers with a similar build but a slanted top/tip to make it easier to maneuver those hard-to-reach spaces. I, personally, find these trimmers to be very flimsy and not quite strong enough. I also can not fit my fingers into most of the slanted trimmers. But that’s OK! I will leave a link for the slanted ones recommended by friends and coworkers as well, if that’s your fancy.

Also, if you’re wondering if these bad boys are good for cutting other more exotic animals nails, you better believe they are! Ferrets, guinea pigs, birds, rabbits, etc. They work great for anything with tiny little nails!

Pros:

  • Strong and sturdy build

  • Easy to use

  • Fits larger and smaller sized fingers easily

  • Stays sharp after multiple uses

Cons:

  • Does not work for larger sized nails

Verdict: 9/10

Would certainly recommend to anyone with a cat, or even small mammal or birds.
