Just Kitten Around

cat toy review feline vet tech

When it comes to keeping our furry feline friends happy and engaged, it may not take a lot: something as simple as a cardboard box is enough for many cats to have an excellent time with! Maybe even a ping-pong ball, or something small that’s been unintentionally dropped (our cats at work were super excited to play with the plastic Easter eggs that they found hidden around the clinic!) or even a favorite shoestring- they can find joy in the silliest of places sometimes!

Though almost anything can keep a cat entertained to an extent, there are certainly some products that are out there that I feel are just excellent for what you’re paying for them.

Some toys contain catnip (which is a member of the mint family, if you’re curious!) which many cats will go crazy for, and some just do not seem to care for. I personally have never cared much for the catnip toys, but just something to be aware of, especially if you may have any specific allergies to mint or parsley.

My personal favorite items for my feline friends are toys that are engaging and durable, and most importantly, safe. I have always loved the fishing-pole type toys that have a long handle connected to a string with a colorful and crinkly or squeaky toy on the end. It allows to to play with your cat a little more personally, as most cats do not exactly know how to fetch!

I also really like the standing scratch-post/toy combos. They typically are just a normal carpeted scratching post with one or more little toys on springs or strings on it as well. These can be affordable and essentially knock out two very important things for your cat- a scratching post and something entertaining!

One of my favorite products are the interactive toys for cats, such as the roller towers or hunting boxes. These toys are much more interactive and require your cat to use it’s cunning and ingenuity to achieve success.

Of course, no matter what, you can also never go wrong with small little stuffed toys that crinkle or squeak. In my experience, the toys that crinkle are much more appealing to cats than the squeakers are, but every cat has it’s own agenda and tastes! Whether it has catnip or not, cats typically will be found playing with these little guys regularly.

Most of my cat toys are from the pet store or online, and they aren’t identifiable now that the packaging is gone- for that reason, I have not made any reviews of named or branded products and therefore can not offer a final verdict! I will include in the links below some products that are essentially the same as what I am referring to here. Thanks for understanding!
